- Prepare the Rice Water: Mix 1 cup of uncooked short-grain rice with 4 cups of water in a separate bowl. Stir until the water turns milky white, then strain the water into your Donabe, discarding the rice.
- Cook the Rice Water: Place the Donabe on the stove over low heat and gradually bring it to a simmer. Allow it to simmer gently for about 10-15 minutes. This process helps seal the porous clay.
- Cool and Rinse: Turn off the heat and let the Donabe cool down naturally. Once cooled, discard the rice water and rinse the pot with warm water (do not use soap).
- Dry Thoroughly: Allow the Donabe to air dry completely before storing.
